From Homo Sapiens to Homo Phoniens…
Homo Phoniens serves as a stark sociological critique of the contemporary human condition, documenting the post-digital transition from Homo Sapiens to a screen-centric existence of Homo Phoniens. In a deliberate stylistic shift, the sculpture strips its subjects of distinct portraiture, dissolving individuality into anonymized, uniform figures defined entirely by their technological dependence.
At the core of the vertical composition, authentic knowledge remains localized within a restrictive cage constructed from intertwined phone lines—a systemic prison built not by external force, but through collective, unconscious daily routine. Emerging from this confinement, a symbolic bloom composed of obsolete books gestures toward forgotten enlightenment, crowned by Giovanni Pico della Mirandola’s treatise on the infinite, yet unrealized, potential of human dignity.
The sculpture ultimately asks a simple but unsettling question: where are we going?
